I fully agree that a good taxonomic knowledge is the overall qualification for biodiversity evaluation. There have been too many biodiversity studies done without it. On the other hand the short time left to act, is too often forcing us to "guesstimate". What is the opinion of a taxonomist on using the concept of "umbrella species" in biodiversity conservation ?
